Serving Greater Carlisle
Second is committed to loving our neighbors in the community that we call home: Greater Carlisle. On our own and through strategic partnerships with others we are making a difference in Carlisle, South Middleton, Cumberland, Perry, and Adams Counties, and more. Over the past ten years we have invested over $300,000 in this work.
Some of our local mission partners include:
- Project Share
- Safe Harbour
- Cumberland/Perry County Domestic Violence
- Samaritan Fellowship
We invest dollars, volunteer hours, and leadership skills in these partners. Our goal is to work together to improve people’s spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being. We’ve filled and donated hundreds of health kits to local shelters, purchased a stair lift for the local domestic violence shelter, under-written the cost of a van for Community CARES and more.
Listed below are some ways you can join Jesus in this life-changing work without packing a suitcase.
- Food Distribution at Project Share
- Tutoring at Hope Station
- Serving as an Evening Host for Community CARES
- Joining one of our Groups that Cooks and Serves a Meal for Salvation Army
In 2017 Second began the “One Carlisle” movement, an effort to build bridges of relationships across race and religion. We have forged vital connections with the people of B & H Islamic Center, Bethel AME (Carlisle), and Hope Station (Carlisle). We eat, pray, and celebrate important events together. We have also organized interfaith dinners and rallies for unity against the KKK in Carlisle. One of our pastors recently organized Carlisle Clergy United, the first inter-racial group of religious leaders in Carlisle.
